The 2020 Australia wildfires were a series of bushfires that began in late 2019 and continued into 2020. The fires were unprecedented in their scale, severity and duration, destroying over 18 million acres of land and killing at least 33 people. They also caused significant damage to wildlife, with an estimated billion animals affected, and release huge amount of carbon emissions.
